Get this. Not only will the new Harry Potter book be totally wicked and awesome and long—thank you—it will also be green. Or greenish.

Organic potions? Animal-friendly spells? Ooh! Does Ollivanders carry recycled products now? "Get yer wands, now with recycled Unicorn hair!"

Uh... no. The BOOK is green. It comes out July 21 and it's called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. They're printing 12 MILLION copies, and that needs a LOT of trees. In fact they need nearly 17,000 tons of paper! So they're trying to get about 2/3 of it "certified" by the Forest Stewardship Council who make sure the paper is Earth-friendly. About 1/3 will be on recycled paper. And 100,000 copies of the 12 million WILL be printed on 100% recycled paper.

I remember when the last one came out — and then they had about 10 million copies — Greenpeace said that over 200,000 mature trees were cut down to make the paper.

I've got a green idea. Dex, can I borrow your copy when you're done with it? That way I don't need another copy at all. Or we could both get one from the library.

You got it, cousin. 784 pages of Harry Potter will only take me about a weekend anyway.
