You know, Dex, our new episode has got me thinking. Have you ever noticed all of the millions of little bugs and plants and flowers growing and living outside? Check this out. Does this look like plain grass?

Sure.

Look closer! That grasshopper is real! There are entire ecosystems — tiny little worlds — hidden in the lawn, the yard, the park, and everywhere you go outside. All these little animals and plants share space with us.

There are definitely a lot of creepy-crawlies. They don't call them bugs for nothing. They bug me.

But they're helpful — they pollinate flowers and are an important part of the food chain. So Dad's noisy lawnmower is probably pretty scary to the creatures. Not to mention for Granny.

Are you saying Granny's a bug? She does kind of hover around me when I'm eating potato salad.

No, I'm saying we humans can be really bad neighbors! Like when we put bad chemicals down to kill weeds or chop everything down to make the grass short. Lawns seem to be more trouble than they're worth. We should be growing stuff to eat or making wildflower gardens to make a better home for animals. I say we start a green revolution. Down with lawns! Up with gardens!
